Not sure yet. Will be visiting there a coup,e times over the next few months and exploring.

Been told to check out the candlewood lake area, seems a little pricey. Possibly New Britain area?

Will be cruising all over the place.

I'm about 10-15 minutes from New Britian. The Northwestern part of the state is a is very nice.New Britian is a busy city area, just hope you move to it's outskirts if you choose it.You'll see why. From there you have a ton of spots to fish within an hours drive or less.I kayak fish as well and will be willing to help you out if need be.Definitely drive around and check the surrounding areas.
Welcome to the site!
