I have been thinking the same as fall arrives with the cooler temps. I was thinking of Blackledge River or Salmon river would be worth a look. I'm heading out to East Hampton today for a hike and fishing so ill be throwin a line in there. It's been since May when I last hooked a rainbow and Brookie catches are way down for me this year too??

Wondering the same thing myself. The water temps are still a bit warm but the the dropping night temps might make them raise in the AM. Maybe Rolling Eyes

If you know where to look in the west farmington like RNA mentioned.you can nab them all year long!Early morning and night. If you fly fish go at night and throw topwater mouse patterns. There are big browns on the prowl then.

For live bait, keep it simple.Worms or minnows

I don't think mealworms would be quite as productive as a crawler, worm and minnow but I'm not going to say they won't work. You may end up with a bunch of fallfish.Once they do the fall stockings then mealies on a bobber will catch them as will powerbait and lures. The ones in the river now have seen pretty much everything. They will be more apt to eat what they normally encounter. There are plenty of river minnows, worms and small bugs.If i didn't fly fish for them using nymphs i would go with minnows and bring or find some worms. That's just me.

I'm not sure where your headed but,the farther north you go the better.Just remember if you go to the TMA area up in New Hartford it's catch and release, barbless hooks.Just crush the barb with pliers.
