After 3 years of learning to hunt deer and a bunch of close calls this year, I finally put one down this morning. I walked into some private property I have with my climbing stand early this morning. It was still too dark to see but when I got to the tree I was going to climb I heard a deer stomping and snorting at me. I sat at the base of the tree hoping it would stay around until it got light out but eventually I saw a glimps of if walking away. I quickly went up the tree since it was already starting to get light out and I knew the deer were gonna be moving. By now it was light out so I his my call twice and within 2 minutes I heard this doe walking towards me. It took about 20 minutes before she gave me a shot. I shot 20 yards from a half crouching position through a little opening and hit her. I was nervous because I hit a little far back so I backed out and waited and hour. After my friend showed up we went in together and I had a really good blood trail. 80-90 yards later I looked up and there she was. My first deer.

I'd bet that'll be the best tasting venison you've ever had. Congratulations!

Thanks everyone! Just finished butchering it today. I never really knew how much meat you could get from one deer!

Thanks! I've put a lot of time in these past three years and learned a lot. I'm hoping for one more before the season ends

Nice deer buddy! I have always hunted with a rifle or shotgun, but am getting a bow this month. It's going to be nice to hunt on my property for a change. Seems like a more challenging hunt for sure.

I've been to game dinners and absolutely LOVE the flavor of fresh venison steaks!

It is a hell of a lot more challenging. I can't tell you how many deer I could have shot by now if I used a gun more often
