A good 10 is probably going to be your most versatile. Will this be the only rod you use? Will you be chunking or plugging or both?

10 is a good length but what lure weight is it rated for? Your goinv to want something rated to about 6 ounce if uour going to be whipping chunks out! If your throwing small plugs out like Diawa Salt Pros a 2-6 ounce will work but youll get a better cast with something more like 1-3 ounce rod.

You will definitely have to compromise a bit if you plan to throw some lighter stuff, but as FF mentioned, you need a rod rated like 2-6 to throw chunks. I tend to fish a lot of plugs, big poppers and big soft plastics which will cast find with a setup like this. Lighter stuff won't load the rod as much on your cast. 11' would offset this a bit, but if you haven't done much surf fishing, the extra foot can make you feel like you've got a telephone pole. Believe it or not, I've actually got an old 15' rod that's more a novelty than something I use. You used to see some ridiculously long rods down in the OBX in the early 80s.

15'ers are starting to make a comeback. I just cant see having one that big myself for any reason.
