| I know people dont give out the special spots but does anyone have any areas i could go out on a boat. I just bought a 16 ft lowe boat but i am not sure where to fish for porgies , stripers and blues. |

Good fishing for your setup out of Niantic or Stonington. Protected launches, and you no longer have to play chicken with big boats going under teh railroad at Niantic. Barn Island in Stonington is nice and sheltered. Lots of places accessible without having to venture across the bigger rips, etc. My advice is to take it slow until you become familiar with the tides and shifting conditions.

I would recommend taking someone along with you to show you the ropes also newbie.

Where are you located? I live in hartford
Where do you have your boat? Hartford
Where will you be launching? the only places i know are in Niantic bay and Thames river under the bridge.
How far are you willing to travel on the water? I willing to travel mostly anywhere less than 1 to 1 1/2 away. |

Try the lower Housatonic River and fish for stripers. You could launch for free in Derby at O'Sullivan's Island Recreational Park.

Is the Housy similar to the CT river with different species where Stripers go to spawn?

The Housatonic River is much smaller than the Connecticut River and has much less flow, especially since the last of the several dams on it is all the way down in Derby. Most of the time, most of the flow comes from the Naugatuck River, much of which is wadable across the entire width of the river.

I'd hit the Race out in that area. Google it and look for reports on here. |

Oh i heard to go to the race you need a bigger boat. You also have to be very experience to navigate to it . The currents are very strong down there. I might not come back if i go there LOL.  . |

Definitely NOT the Race or the bigger rips. As soon as the CT River clears up a bit, the stripers will be running pretty hard and then starting to drop down towards the mouth. Baldwin Bridge is a nice launch facility right down in Saybrook. The DEEP site lists all the state launches. Niantic is good because you've got points and reefs to fish stripers, blues, porgies and fluke without having to venture much beyond Niantic Bay. As I mentioned earlier. Take it slow as the tides and wind can make small boat navigation hazardous. That being said, with some experience and common sense, you can boat a ton of fish in what you're running. I ran my aluminum w/ 20hp all over the place down there. If you don't have GPS, download the Navionics app. It's damn near as good for $1.99 as the chip that goes in Hummingbirds, etc for 100x the price. Feel free to shoot me a pm if your fishing down there, as I will be from about mid to late may on through the fall. Tight Lines!
