Phil,

After a bunch of non-productive trips to Mansfield over the past couple months, I decided to try something different this past Sunday. I launched at Salmon River Cover (in the rain) and paddled up to the mouth of the canal. Needless to say I was VERY surprised to find no barriers.

I saw the sign the state has installed on the bluff and I called the # posted from my yak. The security fella I spoke to told me the canal was back open and I was free to enter. I didn't spend too much time in there as I was on a time limit, but I'm certainly looking forward to getting back there. I just sort of stumbled upon it; I had no idea it was back open.

Oh yeah, one more thing...NICE PIKE!

Looks like a trophy pike to me, what was the weight/length?

Where on Salmon River is this? I looked for Power plant in that area but couldn't find it.

TIA

It was only a 36 incher, but was a nice surprise when I was just dunking wacky Senkos.

The mouth of the canal is about 1/4 mile up the west bank of the Connecticut River from the Salmon River Boat Launch at the mouth of Salmon Cove.

Wink

CT Trophy Northern Pike 10 pounds or 35 inches

Submit it to DEEP, picture should be enough! We got # of Certificates and Emblems from them this year (good folks at Deep) but all for Carp.

Still struggling to find it. Mill Creek? Regardless, I love Salmon River (that area in general). Let me know next time you get out there, would love to join.

Planning on doing some more hard core Pike and Carp fishing there this year. But will most likely be off shore with tons of bait (carp) and dead bait (pike).,

I have had success with Pike there on lures, but slowly stepping into more advanced techniques. I do like the idea of relaxing more vs fishing my arse off.

Also thinking about camping out there on CT river this year. Already found a spot or 2.

If you can let me know about any carp spotting when you are out there that would be great too. Always interested in learning their tendencies/locations and movement hehe

Sweet baby jebus, you mentioned the canal who's name shall not be spoken. Nothing here to see folks….just move along. Nice gator Phil. Couldn't find one of the big ones in there?
